Lava Shot is the third of Matt Trakker’s masks and the one he reaches for least, because it belongs to the Volcano monster truck, and the fan wiki says he wears it only when he co-drives that vehicle. The fan wiki describes a deep red mask with yellow features, a V-shaped visor and pointed ears that remind it of Batman’s cowl.
The three sources describe the weapon three ways. The fan wiki says it fires streams of lava, Wikipedia’s character list says lava blobs, and Matt-Trakker.com says molten metal. They all agree it is some kind of molten projectile, and the cartoon gives us very little to settle the matter: the fan wiki lists the mask in only two episodes, The Lost Fleet and Patchwork Puzzle, and says its power is never used in either.
The Kenner mask came with Volcano in 1986 and with Matt Trakker and Jacques LaFleur in a two-pack the same year. Our toy records spell it Lava-Shot in one place and Lava Shot in the other, which is a spelling variation within the same line and not two different masks.
