comicsBaron Karza turns up in M.A.S.K. #3, and he is working with Miles Mayhem
Skybound did not announce it in advance: the Micronauts villain appears in the third issue of the Energon Universe series, on sale 5 August 2026. Spoilers for that issue follow.
Spoilers for issue three follow. The third issue of the Skybound and Image series, which reached shops on 5 August 2026, brings in a villain from a different toy line altogether: Baron Karza, the ruler of the subatomic Microverse and the great enemy of the Micronauts.
According to The Beat’s report of 5 August, Miles is allied with Karza, and the two of them are plotting against Matt Trakker by way of his son. ICv2 ran the same news on 6 August and noted that nothing had been announced beforehand, which fits a pattern Skybound has already set with this book: the Rom one-shot that turned up inside the blind bags for issue one was also a surprise. Executive editor Ben Abernathy gave ICv2 the publisher’s line on it, “With the introduction of the mysterious Baron Karza, who knows what could happen next!”
Why a Micronauts villain fits here
Karza is older than the franchise. The Beat dates him to 1976 and the Mego toy line, and Marvel’s Micronauts comic carried him through its run from 1978 to 1986. IDW had already put the Micronauts in the same room as Matt Trakker’s team in its 2016 Revolution event, so the idea of the two properties sharing a shelf is not new; what is new is Skybound doing it inside a series that has so far been about Matt Trakker’s network and Miles Mayhem’s V.E.N.O.M. Hasbro owns all of them, and the Energon Universe is the place where that ownership has started to show up on the page.
The most interesting consequence is for Miles. In the DIC cartoon Miles runs V.E.N.O.M. himself, and a Miles who takes orders from, or at least trades favors with, a tyrant from another dimension is a different character with a different ceiling. Whether the comic means him to be the junior partner is not something the coverage we read settles, and we would rather say so than guess.
What we could not confirm
The reports we found agree on the alliance and on the target, and none of them says how the issue frames the arrangement beyond that. We have not read the issue pages ourselves for this post, so this is a report of the reporting. The series page and the issue entry on mask.toys carry the credits, and we will add detail as the arc plays out through issue six on 4 November.
