Thunderhawk is Matt Trakker’s personal vehicle and the first one seen in the cartoon. In road mode it is a red Chevrolet Camaro. In battle mode the gull-wing doors fold out as wings and the car becomes a fighter jet.
The toy was part of Series One, released in 1985. It has a cockpit for the Trakker figure, a pair of retractable wing blasters and two stun bombs that drop from the underside. The doors open with a button. A fan review reports that the door spring can wear out with heavy play, and that the standard decoration is a red car with a purple grid and yellow lightning bolts.
Trakker’s mask here is Spectrum. It has four functions: deafening soundwaves, limited free-fall flight, a laser, and the ability to see in different visual spectrums.
In the cartoon Thunderhawk appears in the first episode, “The Deathstone,” and Trakker is its usual driver. The toy line paired Trakker with Thunderhawk and also with Rhino, where he uses the Ultra-Flash mask. The cartoon splits those duties differently: Bruce Sato often drives the Rhino truck while Trakker takes Thunderhawk.
Series Four later gave Trakker a second car-and-jet toy in Skybolt.
