Rhino is a maroon Kenworth W900 semi-tractor. In its fighting form it becomes a mobile defense platform and command center, with an ATV that detaches from the cab. It was the largest vehicle in Series One, released in 1985.
The toy carries a lot of play features: an ejector seat, a power-ram bumper, a missile launcher, laser cannons and a bulletproof shield. A fan review also remembers a defense mode in which the truck folds into a fifth-wheel buggy, and notes that the rocket is not strong enough to launch it.
Rhino was packaged with two figures and two masks. Matt Trakker uses the Ultra-Flash mask, which fires a blinding blast of energy. Bruce “Magic” Sato uses Lifter, which creates an anti-gravity field. In the toy line Sato operates the ATV portion of the vehicle.
The cartoon shifts the roles. Rhino is in the first episode, and Trakker’s Rhino uniform with the Ultra-Flash mask first shows up in episode three. After that Sato frequently drives the main truck while Trakker drives Thunderhawk. Alex Sector appears as the systems commander aboard Rhino, using the Jackrabbit mask, which allows flight. Sector’s figure was packed with the Boulder Hill playset, not with Rhino.
