Firecracker is Hondo “Striker” MacLean’s vehicle. It is an orange Ford F-350 pickup that elevates into a mobile weapon platform and carries a detachable dirt bike. A collector guide describes it as a pickup that converts to a recon truck.
The Series One toy from 1985 has front thermal detonators, a boomerang tire, rear freeze cannons and the dirt bike. MacLean’s mask is Blaster, a destructive heat-based beam.
In the cartoon the truck is in the first episode and MacLean drives it with Buddie “Clutch” Hawks as co-pilot, using the Penetrator mask, which lets the wearer pass through solid objects. In episode 29, “A Matter of Gravity,” V.E.N.O.M.’s gravity-increasing force field destroys Firecracker, and MacLean is given Hurricane instead. Firecracker comes back in episode 54, “Fog on Boulder Hill,” and from then on Hawks drives it alone.
The toy’s body was reused for Ratfang, the blue V.E.N.O.M. truck in the 1987 Laser Command set, which adds a camper shell. MacLean’s other toy vehicles are Hurricane in Series Two, the European Sea Attack pack, and the cancelled Ramp-Up.
