Hornet is the M.A.S.K. half of Laser Command, a two-toy set that a collector guide dates to 1987 and describes as Kenner’s only standalone accessory set. The set also includes the V.E.N.O.M. truck Ratfang.
Hornet is a packing crate that opens up into an aerial attack vehicle, which the fan site MASKFORCE describes as converting between a crate and an attack glider. It has glider wings, stabilizing wings and a cockpit. Its weapons are a laser gun that fires infrared rays and a particle blaster. The infrared beams are the trigger for Ratfang’s breakaway action.
Hornet comes with a Matt Trakker figure and the Lasertron mask. Wikipedia calls Lasertron a redress of the Ultra-Flash mask from Rhino, and MASKFORCE says it speeds up the infrared rays.
Hornet did not appear in the cartoon. Wikipedia says Laser Command was given a story in a UK comic strip, and one collector guide says the set was in neither the show nor the comics.
