About This Figure
Wikipedia dates the Split Seconds wave to 1987 to 1988. US packaging was redesigned for this wave while European releases kept the earlier red box.
Afterburner is a dragster that converts into a jet with a turret, and like every Split Seconds vehicle it comes apart into two separate machines. Dusty Hayes drives one half and a translucent Computer Image figure of Dusty drives the other. The box carries two Backlash masks, a sonar missile and a sting bomb. The doubled masks are the line’s signature: one for each figure. Dusty’s earlier Kenner vehicles were Gator and Billboard Blast, so Afterburner is his last in the line. Check that both figures and both masks are present, since the clear plastic of the hologram figure shows scratches.
